About this event

  • 3 hours

We‘re a group for families who love to ride around KC with our kiddos, and we’d love for you to join us!

This casual, all-ages, inclusive, no-drop ride will start on the Trolley Trail near Brookside Park (wher The Wildway coffee trailer sets up!) then head south to KC Bier Co. As needed, we'll regroup along the ride.

Schedule:

  • 9:50-10:00 — Gather on the Trolley Trail at 56th & Brookside.
  • 10:00 — Quick introductions and rules of the ride
  • 10:05 — Wrangle toddlers into seats and helmets
  • 10:10 — Roll!

Our easy pace will accommodate all levels of experience and a "sweep" will take the pace of the slowest rider. No one is left behind along the route.

The route is 3 miles one-way.

If your children are riding their own bikes, it's good to understand their endurance levels. We encourage you to ride for your family's success and enjoyment. If that means you turn back after one block - you did it! If that means peeling off halfway - high fives! Want to meet us halfway - do it! Rode all the way with us? Hooray!

Come as you are / as you typically ride! The Trolley Track Trail is crushed gravel and suitable for any age or ability, so long as they know how to go forward :) The ride leader will contact families the day before the ride with contact details or to cancel due to inclement weather.

You assume your own risk by participating in this ride. (We’re just fun parents like you, so can’t afford to be sued.) Helmets and age-appropriate safety gear is strongly encouraged. The event is drizzle-or-shine, above 45°F and below 90°F. Check Instagram for updates.

We strive to follow these guiding principles of inclusivity. Let us know how we can do better!

Heat & Rain Cancellation Policy:

We will not ride if the forecasted "real feel" temp is 90°+ at 10am

We will not ride if it's raining at 9:30am, or if the radar shows impending doom.

Frequently asked questions

Is this event rain or shine?

Not quite. We will ride if temps are above 40°F and below 100°F. We make the rain call before 9:30 on the morning of the ride. Cancellations are emailed & texted to registrants and posted on Instagram.

Is the route safe?

Very. The Trolley Track Trail is an off-street trail. At cross-streets we make sure every kid is with at least one adult. We cross Meyer Blvd and the 73rd-to-75th-St gap as a group.

What does "no-drop" mean?

"No-drop" in cycling means you won't be left behind. For us, this means we won't abandon you. Kids have lots of variations in pace, and families don't always want to learning with an audience. A ride leader will always check in before riding ahead, and occasionally check back in with slower riders.

My kid is so slow/reckless/new. What will our experience be?

We get it! Our own kids are frequently trying to play in traffic, or having feelings about water bottles. This group supports parents and kids at all stages. Chat with your ride leader if you have concerns.

You say all ages but do you mean it?

Yes! We've had babies and grandparents on the ride. We are a group of parents who have been riding with our kids through many stages of life. This is a supportive environment where parents can learn how to ride with their kids — whether in a trailer, a seat, or on their own bikes, too!

You say "everyone is welcome, but do you mean it?

Yes. No hesitation. However you define family is perfect, and we welcome you on the trail! Heck, you don't even have to have a kid!
