Blue Star Denver 12 comes to the Soiled Dove again in 2023 with a stellar lineup for a great cause. This annual fundraiser supports Blue Star Connection, a special program of the Grand County Blues Society, founded by John Catt, with a mission of bringing music into the lives of children who are struggling with serious life challenges. This year's fundraising event will feature Kara Grainger along with the Sadie Johnson Band plus a large Signed Guitar Silent Auction sponsored by Category 5 Amps!For the past 12 years, many supporters of Blue Star have enjoyed being a part of these great fundraising events knowing they are getting a great night of music and helping Blue Star kids in the process. Australian born singer, song-writer Kara Grainger will headline the evening with her special brand of blues. Long time friend of Blue Star, Kai Turner of Strictly Blues fame, will Emcee the show with another long time Blue Star supporter, Sadie Johnson and her band joining us to kick things off. To learn more about Blue Star Connection, please visit www.bluestarconnection.orgKara Grainger Bio:Her music career began in a small suburban town of Sydney Australia and since then has taken her on an incredible journey throughout the globe. Combining slide guitar, soulful vocals and a heartfelt approach to songwriting, Kara's truly unique sound will leave you uplifted, inspired and always wanting more. At the age of 16 Kara joined with her brother Mitch Grainger to form the band "Papa Lips". The band toured consistently throughout Australia and produced two studio albums that received national airplay. The band was heavily influenced by the sounds of Stax recording in Memphis, and by the Funky style of blues and soul that derived from New Orleans. In 2008 Kara signed to Australian label "Craving Records" and was invited to the US by producer David Kalish where she recorded her debut solo album. The recording entitled "Grand and Green River" received critical acclaim and remained in the top 30 of the Americana Charts for 38 straight weeks.Since then Kara has made three further albums whilst residing in the US. In 2011 "LA Blues" was recorded live at Studio City Sound. The album paid tribute to some of Kara's earliest blues inspirations. In 2013 Kara recorded and released "Shiver and Sigh" through Los Angeles record label "Eclecto Groove." The album was produced by grammy award winning producer David Z with some of LA's finest musicians, including Mike Finnigan, Hutch Hutchinson, James Gadson and Kirk Fletcher among others. Kara's latest album, "Living with your Ghost", was just recently released. Opening for the likes of Peter Frampton, Buddy Guy, Taj Mahal and Johnny Lang to name a few plus performing around the globe in unique places like Northeast India, Indonesia, Japan, plus many European countries and several U.S. festivals, Kara brings a world of experience to the stage.Sadie Johnson Bio:For over a decade, Sadie Johnson has been entertaining music-lovers with her unique style and sound. From her one-woman acoustic show to her full band performances, Sadie's combination of soulful vocals, percussive guitar, and upbeat energy have never failed to captivate her audiences. Sadie has recently released a new EP, Natural Distractions, with the help from friend, mentor, and producer, Ben Mathews and including Indy legends Kevin Anker, Brian Yarde, and Matthew McConahay. With musical influences ranging from Madison Cunningham to Jimi Hendrix, this album is focused on creating a unique experience inspired by Sadie's love of music. Let the music take you away!
