ILC is proud to host KCT Basic Certification Training, a neuroscience-based somatic treatment used to soothe and empower the body.

Kali Connection Therapy (KCT) is a novel, neuroscience-based somatic treatment that can be used in individual sessions or for groups to soothe and regulate the nervous system while empowering the body. These cooperative bilateral stimulation exercises are easy to learn, and offer patterned, rhythmic and repetitive movements designed to attune both the client and the therapist, create coregulation, and process traumatic stress. We know that EMDR is effective for trauma, but it rarely uses somatic therapy in conjunction. We also know that somatic processing helps, but it rarely includes co-regulation and attunement. KCT is designed to bridge the gaps that have existed for ages between the latest research and treatment, between body-based and talking therapies, and between attachment and somatic practices. KCT exercises have been featured at<a href="https://integrativelifecenter.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> Integrative Life Center</a> in Nashville and are inspired by Filipino Martial Arts. Many clients are inspired to ask for more sessions and want to share this experience with friends and family, which increases commitment to treatment. Lastly, underneath the cooperative exercises, participants are learning real-life self-defense techniques. Kali needs to be felt and experienced to understand its magic. <h3>Schedule</h3>K﻿ali Connection Basic Certification Training occurs over the course of three weekends in February, March, and April. By registering for this training, you are committing to attend ALL THREE weekends.<ul><li>February 11-12th | 9:00 am-5:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday</li><li>March 11-12th | 9:00 am-5:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday</li><li>April 15-16th | 9:00 am-5:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday</li></ul>C﻿offee, water, and snacks will be provided. Breaks are built in for participants to go offsite for lunch on their own.

<h3>O﻿bjectives</h3><ul><li>Participants will be instructed on the science and theory behind the Kali. Polyvagal, Neuro-sequential Model, and Interpersonal Neurobiology will be covered as it applies to Kali Connection. A detailed understanding of trauma and how it is stored as energy in the body will be covered.</li><li>Participants will learn how to keep clients' nervous systems in sympathetic safe vs sympathetic unsafe and help participants learn the difference between connected attunement and dopamine-seeking acceleration.</li><li>Participants will learn how to self-regulate and be able to monitor the states of clients to progress clients toward an attuned and connected experience.</li><li>Participants will learn the importance of mindful awareness in somatic work and be able to understand the science of the 2 meditative Kali practices and understand how this practice facilitates integration.</li><li>Participants will be given methods on how to regulate clients who may be in Sympathetic Activation and specific approaches for clients who are in Dorsal shutdown.</li><li>Participants will learn how to use 40 BPM to help clients access their Primary Regulatory network.</li><li>Participants will learn how to pendulate exercises to widen the client’s window of tolerance.</li><li>Participants will be able to lead a group Kali class for up to 8 participants and be able to use Kali in individual sessions to help regulate a client. Participants will be proficient in the 6 basic Kali Connect exercises.</li></ul>

<h3>K﻿CT Will Provide</h3><ul><li>A set of sticks for each participant</li><li>A manual of the covered material</li><li>Basics video</li><li>A script for Group Classes</li><li>Semi-private or private check-out lesson prior to certification</li><li>Weekly supervision practice classes will be available. Online training requires the submission of videos. (Online supervision can result in additional charges depending on the level of support needed)</li><li>Weekly online zoom call for any questions</li></ul>P﻿lease note: Coffee, water, and snacks will be provided. Lunch will not be provided and must be eaten off campus; no outside food or drink is allowed in the class.

<h3>R﻿equirements for Certification</h3><ul><li>Completion of the weekend training classes (Feb, March, April)</li><li>Completion of 8 supervision classes </li><li>Individual check-out and final approval with a KCT trainer</li></ul>Please note that yearly re-certification is required for continued certification in KCT, and involves continuing education credits

K﻿ali Connection Therapy Training is provided by Creator and Founder, Mara Giovanni, MSW, and Shannon Black, LPC-MHSP-SM﻿ara Giovanni, MSW:After graduating from Columbia with a master’s degree in Social Work, Mara spent years creating imaginative therapeutic groups around topics such as boundaries, trauma, safety, recovery, grief, and meditation. She curated unique content and techniques enlivened by her decades of training and teaching martial arts, which gives her a unique skill in somatic empowerment. She has designed and led groups in residential treatment centers, churches, public schools, and meditation centers. Mara recognized the need for connective, available, somatic empowerment while working with her groups and began thinking of possible innovative treatments. KCT was born.Shannon Black, LPC-MHSP-S:Shannon is a self-identified "neuro-nerd," and sees teens, adults, couples, and families in private practice and community settings in Middle Tennessee. Teaching at MTSU for several years gave Shannon a love for training, which has led to numerous opportunities for speaking and training events and workshops that facilitate better connections among humans and the ethical treatment of clients. Shannon's research interests include searching for and applying the latest findings for treating all functional mental health diagnoses and creating integrative treatment modalities and techniques that include the body AND the brain AND the mind.
