About this event

Juries for Justice: Community screening of "Judging Juries"

This short documentary film, "Judging Juries" directed by Abby Ginzberg, emphasizes the importance of diversity in jury trials for people of color, and the challenges preventing their fair representation.

The film addresses barriers such as jurors receiving minimal finacial compensation, in some states as low as $5 per day, which can disproportionately affect certain individuals' ability to serve. Additionally, it explores how attorneys use strategies to indirectly exclude people fo color from jury participation.

We invite you to join our East County event (exact location in Antioch to be announced) for a free screening and panel discussion featuring guests District Attorney Diana Becton, Public Defender Ellen McDonnell, retired Judge Brenda Harbin-Forte, community researcher Dr. Kerby Lynch, and community advocate Antoine Watt who will engage in conversation to examine how these issues affect our justice system and explore community-based solutions.
