Juneteenth walking tour in Brooklyn Heights, Downtown Brooklyn, DUMBO and Fulton Ferry Landing.

Join us for a three-hour Juneteenth walking tour highlighting the history of slavery and the Underground Railroad in Brooklyn. Our journey begins at the Juneteenth Grove in Cadman Plaza, before heading to Downtown Brooklyn to learn about the abolitionists who fought against slavery in NYC. Next, we visit the site known as the Grand Central Station of the Underground Railroad, where enslaved people hid from bounty hunters swarming New York in the 1800s. Then, we'll head to DUMBO and the Brooklyn waterfront to discuss Brooklyn's role in refining slavery-produced crops and its early free Black community, which fought against discrimination and slavery and became pioneers in Black entrepreneurship and education. Tour highlights include Juneteenth Grove in Cadman Plaza, the Tobacco Warehouse in Brooklyn Bridge Park, Plymouth Church, the Old Bridge Street Church, and the Henry Ward Beecher Statue.

The Cadman Park Conservancy is an all-volunteer community based non-profit 501C-3. We partner with NYC Parks to improve our precious park through advocacy, fundraising and volunteer activities. Our work and your contribution help to keep our park vibrant, clean, safe and blooming! Please join us in supporting this critical neighborhood resource.

Additionally, our park is home to the Brooklyn War Memorial. We are working to re-open this space to the public. The memorial is dedicated to the more than 300,000 heroic men and women of the borough of Brooklyn who served in World War II.
