JUNETEENTH READING at Books Inc. Alameda

Come join us for a special JUNETEENTH READING event at Books Inc. in Alameda! Celebrate freedom and unity through powerful readings and discussions. This in-person event promises to be enlightening and engaging. Don't miss this opportunity to connect with the community and honor this important day in history.

Freedom finally came on June 19, 1865, when some 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as "Juneteenth," by the newly freed people in Texas.

Join us as we celebrate Juneteenth with writers, Jenee Darden, Tureeda Mikell and James Cagney sharing their prose and poetry that pays homage to this historical moment, and the collected histories of their ancestors, family and friends, and to each other’s personal journey…

To be recorded for Sights & Sounds on KALW

One of Books Inc.’s favorite aspects of being booksellers is getting the chance to welcome and host hundreds of authors a year, from house-hold names to local, debut authors and we look forward to continuing to provide the Bay Area with “The Experience You Can’t Download” in our stores when we can assure authors and guests that it is safe to do so. In the meantime, we are working on an exciting list of virtual events for both adults and children and we look forward to exploring this new format with you.

Sales equate success, and as with in-store events, booksales made from an independent bookstore benefit the author, publisher, and lead to future event bookings. Please help us keep the Bay Area the wonderful literary hub that it is by supporting your local Books Inc.
