Dr. Karcheik Sims-Alvarado, the Historian in Heels, leads a two-part Juneteenth Lecture Series at the Atlanta University Center. Lecture 1: The History of Juneteenth. What was happening at the time of the Emancipation Proclamation, including the founding of Historically Black Colleges &amp; UniversitiesLecture 2: Atlanta for Freedom. What role did Atlanta play at the end of slavery? A look at the events, entrepreneurs and energy that fueled the &quot;city that influences everything.&quot;Dr. Sims-Alvarado is the CEO and founder of Preserve Black Atlanta, dedicated to preserving African-American and history and culture. She is an assistant professor and director of the Public History and Cultural Heritage Preservation Program at Morehouse College.Each lecture is approximately 45 minutes with a break. Please allow time for check-in when you arrive.
