On June 19, 1865, Union Army General Gordon Granger and 2,000 federal troops arrived to formally inform the enslaved Black and African American people of Galveston and Texas - about a quarter of a million people - that the Emancipation Proclamation had freed them.
More than 150 years later and the resounding effects are still ever present. It is important we take time restore ourselves.
This Wellness Day will commence with a sound bath followed by a day of activities, art-based activations, opportunities for fellowship and relaxation throughout with Poetry on the Open Stage and a feast at the Family Table.
