Juneteenth Celebration

Bay Path University was founded in 1897. With locations in Longmeadow (main), East Longmeadow (Philip H. Ryan Health Science Center), and Concord (MA), Bay Path's innovative program offerings includetraditional undergraduate degrees for women,The American Women's College, the first all-women, all-online accredited bachelor's degree programs in the country; andgraduate programs for women and men, including doctorate degrees. Bay Path's goal is to equip students with the confidence in the fundamentals of their chosen field, the curiosity to question the ordinary, the leadership to show initiative, and the desire to make a difference.

A virtual panel discussion about the history and importance of Juneteenth.

Join the Bay Path University community for a virtual art gallery and a moderated panel discussion on the history of Juneteenth. Panelists include Dr. Amilcar Shabazz, Professor of History &amp; Africana Studies in the W.E.B. DuBois Department of Afro-American Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst; Dr. Gwen Jordan, JD, Associate Professor and Chair of the Undergraduate Justice and Legal Studies Department at Bay Path University, and previous staff attorney with the Illinois Innocence Project; and Janell Smith, rising Bay Path junior, president of the Bay Path Black Student Union, and Western Massachusetts community volunteer and social justice activist.
With a combined academic and professional background that blends both the past and the present, this discussion will bring both historical aspects of Juneteenth to the forefront, while also enlightening the community on present day issues still faced by the Black community.
