About this event

  • 8 hours

Get ready for the 5th Annual Juneteenth Celebration, happening again at the stunning Fortland on House Island in Portland's Casco Bay! This year, we're turning up the excitement as we honor Juneteenth by stepping back from our daily grind to focus on creating #BlackJoy building stronger community connections. Our theme this year is Nature, Health, and Economic Opportunity. Whether you join us for one day or two, prepare for an unforgettable experience filled with camping, hiking, fishing, birdwatching, yoga, and more—all led by talented BIPOC health and outdoor entrepreneurs from The Third Place ECO-BIPOC network and community at-large. You will become an active participant in demonstrating the possibility of a community-integrated BIPOC Outdoor Ecosystem.

This family-friendly event promises something for everyone. Enjoy mouthwatering meals from Bab’s Table, groove to the music, toast marshmallows around the fire, and engage in games and relaxation. With both structured and unstructured activities available throughout the day and evening, you can dive into the fun or find your own peaceful corner with a book or journal. The island is all ours!

Don't miss out on this special community-building event that's fast becoming a cherished Maine tradition. Participation is limited to 80 attendees, so secure your spot now! This event is designed specifically for individuals from the BIPOC community and their families, with priority given to descendants of those enslaved in the Americas and Caribbean.

All participants must sign a waiver prior to boat transport.

Join us for a day (or two) of celebration, connection, and joy—see you on the island!
