About this event

There are four tours, all approximately 1.5 miles (1-2 hours depending on the group) and all happen rain or shine:

June 1 at 10:30am

SE Alleys - Capitol Hill has many hidden alleys and charming one-block streets. Take a trip back in time to eplore the workaday world of past residential and industrial uses and some of our most diverse populations. Starts at 233 12th Street SE

June 1 at 1:00pm

NE Alleys: The lifestyles, occupations, and shenanigans of the inhabitants; early industrial uses; and efforts both to eliminate and to preserve alley dwellings.Starts at triangle park bounded by the 600 blocks of Massachusetts & Constitution Avenues, NE.

June 2 at 10:30am

NE Alleys: The lifestyles, occupations, and shenanigans of the inhabitants; early industrial uses; and efforts both to eliminate and to preserve alley dwellings.Starts at triangle park bounded by the 600 blocks of Massachusetts & Constitution Avenues, NE.

June 2 at 1:00pm

Our industrial Past - It’s increasingly difficult to picture, but Capitol Hill was once home to many industrial and commercial operations including manufacturing, beer brewing, coal yards, and other now-vanished businesses. Visit these sites, many of which have been repurposed. Starts at 111 10th Street SE

These tours are presented by volunteers from the Capitol Hill Restoration Society as a way to highlight our wonderful neighborhood. We want people to appreciate the rich history and the beautiful architecture so that we will continue to protect and preserve the area in and around the Historic District.

Frequently asked questions

What if it rains?

We hold these tours rain or shine!

Are pets allowed?

We ask that you leave your furry friends at home.

How about babies or children?

Many of our tours have included infants in carriers or strollers. The subject matter would be more interesting for those 13+ and anyone over 12 years of age requires a ticket. Younger children need to be supervised by their adults at all times, as we will be crossing streets and walking in alleys.
