True Self-Care: Creating Environments We Don’t Need Escape From

LIMITED SEATING

About the event:

When we talk about self-care, we are talking about resiliency – the ability to recover from whatever life throws at us. When we proactively and reactively care for our wellbeing, we are using tools to face the struggles and challenges of our lives and finding creative ways to take breaks to refuel. We set boundaries, learn to say no, make time for bubble baths, and treat ourselves to getaways and decadence. What if there was more we could do to care for ourselves? What if we could change our surroundings to the extent that we don’t need to take a break from it?

Brianna Wiest says, “True self-care is not salt baths and chocolate cake. It is making the choice to build a life you don’t need to regularly escape from.” At this Sip Session, Jackie Davis – Director of Workplace Mental Health & DEI of Mental Health Connecticut, Inc. – will be leading an open discussion that challenges us to dream big and imagine what true self-care looks like. What would that look like and how would that impact our wellbeing? Imagine if we could dismantle systemic racism, remove gender segregation, end the dominate two party political system, cure world hunger, re-write the Constitution, or bring justice to those treated unjustly? These are just a few potential goals toward a different life, yet to get there may take the work of generations. We may not see the foundation of systemic racism crumble but we can certainly make a crack in our lifetimes.

By joining this session, you will be challenged to find how you can contribute to a better world so that all of us can “build a life that we don’t need to regularly escape from.”
