The Textual Research Division at the National Archives at College Park, MD is pleased to offer research services for the textual records in our holdings.

Research visits are by appointment only and are scheduled no further than three months in advance. New weekly appointment blocks open each Monday. The Archives 2 Textual Research Room is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

All researchers must register for a NARA Researcher Card. Researchers are further encouraged to pre-register in advance of a visit. This process consists of two parts, including completing the Online Researcher Orientation and Online Kiosk Registration.

Advance consultations can be requested at least 45 days prior to your visit. If you are visiting in less than 45 days, you may request a virtual consultation by contacting archives2reference@nara.gov; however, due to the volume of requests received, a virtual consultation less than 45 days prior to your visit is not guaranteed. Daily consultation services are also available on-site from 9:00am-4:00pm, Mondays - Fridays.

How do I cancel my appointment?

To cancel your appointment, go to your confirmation email and click on “View and Manage Order.” Click on “Cancel Order” and follow the prompts to cancel your order.

Is there shuttle serive?

Yes, The shuttle service between the National Archives Building in Washington, D.C. and the National Archives at College Park begin at 8 a.m., shuttles will depart each building’s designated stop five minutes after the hour and run every hour, with the last shuttle departing each building at 5 p.m.

Is there space available to put my personal items away?

Self-service lockers are available in the lower level of the research complex. Some lockers are designated for overnight storage, and others are designated for daily storage. A quarter is required for day use lockers, but is refund when the locker key is returned.

Can I get a(n) advanced pull?

If you know the specific records you would like to view, please provide that information -- including Record Group #, Entry #, Series Title, and Container #(s) -- to visit_archives2@nara.gov at least seven calendar days before your appointment.

Should I contact NARA in advance of my onsite research visit?

Yes, researchers should contact NARA at least 3-4 weeks in advance of your research visit. Staff are available to provide advance consultation services, and answer questions about visiting a NARA facility. You can connect with a knowledgeable staff member by contacting archives2reference@nara.gov.
