The National Archives is pleased to offer digital versions of some NARA microfilm publications in the National Archives Catalog. For a list of microfilm publications in the National Archives Catalog, please visit the Microfilm section of our webpage.
Additionally, digital versions of some NARA microfilm publications will be available on Public Access PCs at Archives 2 in the Textual Research Room (Room 2000), the Library and Reference Consultation Room (Room 3000), and the Microfilm Reading Room (Room 4050).
Effective March 1, 2023, NARA microfilm publications that are publicly available in digital form in either the National Archives Catalog or on Public Access PCs will no longer be available to view on microfilm in the Microfilm Reading Room. Archives 2 Textual Reference Staff is available to assist researchers with accessing the digital versions of these publications. Please contact archives2reference@nara.gov or visit Room 3000 at Archives 2 to speak with a consultant.
Appointments for the Microfilm Reading Room are available to view microfilm not digitally available relating to the holdings of the Textual Research Division at the National Archives at College Park, MD. An appointment in the Microfilm Reading Room is not the same as an appointment for the Textual Research Room. Textual records are not served in the Microfilm Reading Room.
Research visits are by appointment only and are scheduled no further than three months in advance. New weekly appointment blocks open each Monday. The Archives 2 Textual Research Room is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
All researchers must register for a NARA Researcher Card. Researchers are further encouraged to pre-register in advance of a visit. This process consists of two parts, including completing the Online Researcher Orientation and Online Kiosk Registration.
Virtual consultations can be requested through Eventbrite at least 45 days prior to your visit. If you are visiting in less than 45 days, you may request a virtual consultation by contacting archives2reference@nara.gov; however, due to the volume of requests received, a virtual consultation less than 45 days prior to your visit is not guaranteed. Daily consultation services are also available on-site from 9:00am-4:00pm, Mondays - Fridays.
