About this event

  • 2 hours

Interested in learning more about decorated sugar cookies?! Sweetened by Nature Bakery LLC is here to help! In this 2-hour class, we'll cover the basics to sugar cookies (so – yes, it’s beginner friendly!), do some piping practice with Royal Icing, talk about how to strategize the best ways to decorate sugar cookies, and cover the general concepts around dough and icing! Everything you'll need is provided at class along with a live in-person instructor – just bring a smile (and maybe an apron).

We’ll learn from our "mis-steaks" in this 2-hour cookie decorating class! Don’t miss out on this fun 6-cookie, 4-icing class – this will be a “grilly” fun class!

You'll leave class with a great understanding of the basics of sugar cookies plus a few cool techniques we'll cover in class! More details on refunds, things to bring, cancelations, and FAQs are below - looking forward to having you with us.

About the Sugar Cookie Decorating Class

This class is for the beginner cookier or the person who is interested in learning a few tips while decorating sugar cookies. If you have limited experience with sugar cookies, found yourself frustrated with royal icing or looking to have fun with family and friends, this is the class for you! We will be doing a fun grill-themed set that tastes amazing and looks even better once you've completed your decorating!

I provide everything you will need - cookies, icing, sprinkles and a box to take your awesome creations home in - I just need YOU!

The class is July 9 from 6:30-8:30 so we can have enough time to decorate and ask questions along the way. Come by yourself, bring your friends or bring some family. There is seating for 25 people. It's a blast whether you come solo or accompanied by your crew.

The class is good for ages 8+, but if you'd like to leave the kiddos at home, purchase an add-on kit. The kits are good for kids at home. Plus, I'll send you the step-by-step chart so you can teach them yourself!

The class will be held at the lively West Side Brewing at 3044 Harrison Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45211.

F AQs

What will I be doing in this class?

Besides having the most fun ever? We will be going over some cookie facts, decorating techniques and you will be decorating your very own set of cookies to take home the same day!

Do you offer a virtual class?

Currently, I am not offering a virtual component to class. However, if you're interested, please email me about a private in-person class.

Can I purchase an additional take-home kit?

Absolutely! Many parents or practicing cookiers purchase additional class kits to take home and redo the class set. You can purchase an add-on kit at checkout. Your kit will be available at the end of class, so don't forget to grab it.

Do I need to know how to bake?

Nope! I'll have your cookies pre-made for you.

What will we learn in class?

You'll learn what goes into preparing royal icing, the value of different icing consistencies, how to color icing and tricks to fill piping bags. (Believe me, it's harder than it looks.) You'll also learn different decorating techniques such as marbling, outlining, wet-on-wet and painting. Techniques will vary depending on the class and can be customized to your needs.

What do I need to bring?

Nothing! Everything will be provided for you including my rather tasty sugar cookies. All you need to do is join me and have fun! Are you a messy decorator? Just bring your own apron or wear easy-to-wash clothing. There's a PowerPoint so if you wear glasses, I encourage you to not forget them.

What age is best for cookie classes?

My cookie classes are for almost any age! From youngsters to grandparents - come on in and have some cookie fun with me. My in-person classes are great for any age - however kiddos under 12 will need a parent taking the class with them. (Some classes are geared for younger kids while some may be more adult-appropriate.) If you think your child may be too young to enjoy the in-person class, purchase an additional take-home kit. I'll send you the class step-by-step chart so you can teach your kiddo in the comfort of your own home.

Can just my child take the class?

I ask that an adult also purchase a ticket for the class for any child under 12. Depending on the venue, for any child 12+, you can drop them off and pick them up 1.5 hours later. (Please note classes held in the brewery require an adult 21+ to accompany minors.) Due to space restrictions, there is not room for adults to stand and watch their child decorate.

What will I bring home?

By the end of class, you will have created a set of gorgeous cookies ready to dry in their own box. And, of course, you'll have new skills, memories and fun!

Can I sign up as an individual or as a group?

Either! You can sign up as an individual, with a friend or a whole group. The more, the merrier! Space is limited so sign up ASAP.

Where are the classes located?

This class is held at West Side Brewing at 3044 Harrison Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45211.

I signed up for a class but can't make it.

: ( I understand that life happens so that's why I allow you to cancel up to 7 days before the class. You can always transfer your spot to a friend though (and what a nice friend you are!). Any cancellation after the 7 days will roll you into the next upcoming class at the same location of your ticket.

Things to Bring

Wondering what you need to bring to have a successful time decorating? Well – nothing’s required – but here are some things I recommend if you’d like to elevate your experience!

· Bring an apron! Things can get messy when you’re workin’ with royal icing – so grab an apron (bonus points if it’s cute – I’ll definitely be asking where you got it).

· Bring your glasses! There’s a reference slide deck to help you decorate, but if things get blurry far away, seeing glasses may be a great bet.

· Bring your phone! I love it when students take pictures throughout class – so bring a phone!

· Bring a mask if you’d like! These classes follow the state health guidelines, but if you’d like to wear a mask throughout class – please do!

· Bring a good attitude! Cookies are fun, but they're also challenging! A good attitude makes all the difference.

Add a Sugar Cookie Class Kit to your Order!

Order your sugar cookie class kit and take the class home with you to teach a child or friend! The class kits come with everything you'll use in class, and I'll email you the step-by-step chart so you can follow the instructions at home. Sugar Cookie Kits are created before your class, and you'll pick them up to take home as you leave your class.

How long can a kit last?

Depending on how you store your icing, the kit can last for a week or longer. Freezing cookies will keep them fresh for a long time, but I recommend using your kit as soon as possible - ideally in the first week after you've taken it home.

Allergens - Eggs, gluten and nuts are present in the kitchen used to make the cookies and icing. (The cookies do not contain nuts and are dairy-free).

Eventbrite Fees - Eventbrite does not refund its fees. If you cancel your ticket for a refund, you'll get a refund less the Eventbrite fees. I don't get this back either. Eventbrite keeps it whether you show up or cancel. :(

Class Cancelation Policy: Classes may be canceled at the discretion of me, the event host. This rarely happens – but in that extremely rare event that it does, you’ll receive a 100% refund including your Eventbrite fees.

Classes with attendance below 7 will be canceled. Don’t be sad! You can either have your ticket moved to a future class (along with my apologies), or a full refund! I’ll let you know if your class has low attendance 14 days before the event is canceled so that you can bring a friend (hint hint) or find other plans for that day.

Weather Policy: Sometimes Jack Frost doesn’t play well with cookie class schedules, and Mother Nature seems to be takin’ notes. In the event of inclement weather, I’ll contact you with options – these may differ depending on the weather event but rest assured – we’ll figure something out!

Organized by

I started sugar cookies classes so I could share my passion for cookies with my friends and neighbors in Cincinnati. It's my way of sharing my passion with a new group of to-be bakers. I found a love for decorating sugar cookies a couple of years ago and have since grown to share my love of all things sugar cookies with friends, family and hopefully with you!
