Weapons of Mass Hilarity proudly presents: A Joke Writing Workshop for Beginners
Have you ever dreamed of becoming a stand-up comedian or writing the next hit sitcom? Perhaps you're looking to add some humor to a best man's speech, enhance your next work presentation with a few well-timed jokes, or simply try something new and fun?
If so, join us for an exciting and engaging workshop led by the incredibly talented comedian, Stella Graham. This beginner-friendly session is designed to help you unleash your comedic potential and start crafting your own jokes!
Stella Graham is a stand up comedian with over a decades’ experience on the British comedy circuit. Shameless, charmingly aggressive and unladylike, she's the funniest half Sri Lankan gal from Coventry.
Stella has a multitude of comedy teaching experience under her belt. She has worked with a number of organisations in Coventry and London, some as part of the Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 project, and Counterpoint Arts where she taught refugees, asylum seekers and migrants stand-up comedy https://popchange.co.uk/commissions/no-direction-home/ as well as lead classes for Hoopla.
What to expect from the workshop?
No prior experience in stand-up comedy, the performing arts or comedy writing is needed.
By the end of the session participants will receive an introduction to:
- What are jokes?
- How to approach writing a joke
- Writing jokes!
Sound good? To really maximise your experience, we do ask that you:
- Bring a written list of stand-up comedians you enjoy watching
- Bring 2 jokes you like to the workshop. Preferably written out.
The workshop will start promptly at 16:00 with a half an hour break midway and end at 19:30, and wil take place on the 1st floor of the venue.
