Description
Bring your own mobile phones and laptops for an evening of learning and doing. Join Hacks/Hackers NYC and NYC Resistor on April 4 at 6:30 p.m. for a hands-on encryption and digital security workshop for journalists.
Why and when would you want to encrypt your communications? What type of security does encryption provide? What type of security doesn't encryption provide? What should you be aware of, what should you install and how do you use tools to keep your communications with sources and colleagues secure?
Susan McGregor of Columbia University and volunteers from NYC Resistor and Freedom of the Press Foundation will give us the big picture, specific advice, and help you install their recommended encryption software, including:
- Speaking out safely
- Secure comms with Signal and PGP for anyone that already uses Signal desktop
- 2FA
- Password Managers
To attend our Digital Security for Journalists Installfest, RSVP today ($10 + 2.24 processing fee, payable in advance) to Hacks/Hackers NYC.
Refund policy: Cancel at least 24 hours before the event (that is, no later than 6:30 p.m. April 3) to receive a full refund. We cannot issue refunds after that time.
