ABOUT THE JOHN KNOX VILLAGE CHOIR

The John Knox Village Choir comprises three choral ensembles: The Villagers, the Choristers, and the Chimers. These groups offer men and women the chance to engage in choral and musical education while reveling in the pleasure of singing. Moreover, they serve as ambassadors for John Knox Village through their public performances. Under the guidance of Musical Director Birgit Djupedal Fioravante and accompanied by Pianist Carolyn Morgan, the choirs convene for weekly rehearsals from September to May, culminating in Spring and Winter concerts held at the Cultural Arts Center at The Pavilion.

Born in Norway into a musical family, Birgit Djupedal Fioravante came to the United States as a child with her family. After receiving a BM in Vocal Performance from the University of Akron followed by several years of private study in New York City she made her Carnegie Hall debut with Opera Orchestra of New York as Fricka in scenes from Wagner’s Ring. Birgit continued to sing professionally in opera and concert raising two daughters and maintaining a voice studio in Fort Lauderdale.

Birgit is most proud of the creation in 2006 of Duelling Divas, a three-woman “Operatic Revue” that toured for nine years as well as founding and managing Opera Fusion, a boutique opera company that produced concerts and operas for seven years throughout South Florida.

Most recently, she has been the musical director of The Broward Women’s Chorus since 2015 where she has enjoyed a musical partnership with Carolyn Morgan.

Pianist Carolyn S. Morgan received a Master of Music from Peabody Conservatory and has held professorships at New Mexico Highlands University, Wells College in New York, and Florida International University. Her many honors include a state department tour of Spain, a recording with Musical Heritage, solos with various orchestras, and appearances at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Recital Hall.

Carolyn is accompanist for Broward Women’s Chorus and The Girl Choir of South Florida. She serves as organist for First Church of Christ, Scientist, Fort Lauderdale and maintains a private teaching studio.

Carolyn and Birgit have teamed together as director and accompanist for nearly eight years at BWC, and are delighted to continue their partnership at John Knox Village.
