Introduction to AI Agents (2nd Offering)

School of Computer Science – JLR Challenge #1 Workshop

Introduction to AI Agents (2nd Offering)

Presenter: Salma Aly

Date: Wednesday, Oct 22nd, 2025

Time: 10:00 AM

Location: Workshop Space, 4th Floor - 300 Ouellette Ave., School of Computer Science Advanced Computing Hub

Abstract:

This workshop offers a comprehensive theoretical exploration of AI agents, the autonomous systems that perceive, reason, and act within dynamic environments. Participants will be introduced to the evolution of agent design—from reactive models to deliberative and cognitive architectures—focusing on how agents integrate reasoning, decision-making, and adaptive learning to achieve autonomy.

The session will analyze foundational models of agentic intelligence of large language models (LLMs).

Workshop Outline:

The workshop will present a theoretical overview of AI agents, exploring their evolution from reactive and rule-based systems to advanced deliberative and cognitive architectures. It will focus on how agents integrate reasoning, decision-making, and adaptive learning to achieve autonomy, emphasizing key principles such as perception, goal orientation, and self-improvement. The session will also examine foundational models of agentic intelligence within large language models (LLMs), highlighting how modern frameworks combine reasoning and action to simulate intelligent behaviour.

Prerequisites:

· Basic understanding of artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts.

· Interest in the theoretical foundations of autonomous and language-based AI agents.

Biography:
