About this event

  • 2 hours

Come out and enjoy the incredible spring wildflowers on the Preserve.

During our hike we will stroll through an amazing diversity of wildflowers within the Jean Schulz Wildflower Meadow located in the coastal prairie grasslands. Each year, acres upon acres of goldfields (Lasthenia californica) stretch out across the hills above Jenner providing quite a show. With redwood forest and the Pacific Ocean as their backdrop, there is much for you to see and explore. This 2-mile roundtrip hike will begin with a special access caravan to our red barn where we will park. The short hike will include dazzling views of the Sonoma Coast and Lower Russian River (on a clear day!) Come join the fun and explore the headlands.

* **Optional: 30-minute weeding session, flash mob style - pulling up invasive goat grass from within the serpentine grasslands, at the end of tour.

Suggested Items to Bring:

  • Drinking water
  • Closed-toed shoes
  • Hiking Poles
  • Wide brim hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Snacks or lunch
  • Binoculars
  • Field Guides if desired

Hikers will meet Preserve staff at our Gateway to the Headlands parking lot on Highway 1, two miles north of Jenner. From there we will drive onto the Preserve behind a locked gate where the hike will begin. The destination is the display of unique CA native wildflowers blooming in the shallow serpentine soils along our wildflower loop trail.
