Workshop Instructor: Jeff Farmer


Add to your blacksmithing skills as you use a coal forge to heat the metal to make a letter opener. Topics covered include safety, managing temperature, controlling hot metal and shaping.


• Total Hours: 3 hours - Please arrive a few minutes early!


• Age: 13 + (Participants under 18 MUST be accompanied by one parent, legal guardian or authorized adult through the duration of the workshop. If the parent, legal guardian or authorized adult wishes to participate, they must also register for the workshop. All participants under 18 MUST bring a Youth Authorization Form, completed and signed by a parent or legal guardian, found at the Attendees Resources link.)

• Class Size: 6 Max


• Take Home: an unforgettable and unique letter opener forged in a traditional coal forge


• Notes: Workshop is held outside. Active railroad in close vicinity to location. Workshop is not handicap accessible. Must be able to stand for duration of class, long periods of time


For safety, participants must wear long pants and sturdy closed toe shoes (leather shoes preferred) and bring safety glasses and ear protectors (if noise bothers you). Participants not meeting these requirements will not be allowed to join the workshop. If a participant shows a disregard for his/her personal safety or the safety of others, the instructor may ask the party to leave.
