So, you've done a few courses and read a few books but still don't feel great about your relationship with JavaScript?

We are here to help you with that. If you want to learn how to build JavaScript applications in React.js with Redux, we will share our knowledge and guide you through all the traps and pitfalls that lurk on you in the JavaScript world.

JavaScript Code Academy is 9 evening sessions, where we take you from basic building blocks to fully working React.js application. After this serie we will organize a Hackathon where we will focus on training everything what you have learned in teams together with lectors.

Based on your current experience, you will get familiar with these topics:

• get comparison of our popular old friend jQuery with React
• use React.js for your UI
• how to maintain application state with Redux
• identify bottlenecks in your code
• keep your ass safe by writing unit tests
• get used to some latest improvements in JavaScript language itself
• touch backend with node.js so you know what's behind
• get familiar with Webpack and learn some very useful tricks

Long story short - we don't want to tell you just how the React.js API looks, but teach you how to use it to your advantage.

So, who is it for?

As we aren't going to teach what the condition, cycle or variable is, it is not recommended for absolute beginners to programming. All lessons will be in English.

It is for all open-minded people who have some experience with programming. You may know how to write software in different languages/environments and now you want to switch to JavaScript world. Maybe you are familiar with HTML, CSS and some jQuery stuff. If this is your case, it's for you.

How is this free?

We believe in giving back to the community. We are group of people who would like to see even more junior/senior developers to start using React. And it is happening also thanks to MSD IT who give us big support to make this course alive.

When:

Code academy will run every Thursday, starting on October 5th, 18:00 - 20:00, at MSD (Svornosti 3321/2, Praha 5, next to the old railway bridge by Náplavka).

Academy will take 9 lessons + Hackathon (7th December)

All content is going to be publicly available on GitHub and we can assist you to catch up individually for all your questions.

What do you need?

If you feel motivated to attend these sessions, just sign up and bring your laptop (charger could be useful).

Lectors:

Peter Hozák - Fluent in both Angular.js and React.js worlds, also helping to spread Python as a lector in PyLadies community.

Pavel Vaněček - walking JavaScript wiki, Docker enthusiast, able to produce clean code both on frontend and backend side without any hassle.

Jan Bárta - familiar with Angular.js and React.js, experienced in .NET and how to lead projects as well.

Viliam Elischer - big fan of all reactive stuff, big proponent of TDD, organizing ngParty meetups during his free time.

Jaroslav Kubíček - used JavaScript in last years gradually for frontend, backend, automated acceptance tests and frontend applications again.

Stefan Vonolfen - mostly worked on .Net projects in the academic environment as well as in the banking sector. Recently dived into JavaScript focusing on Node.js applications.

Adam Blažek - used to work in Java, then switched to JavaScript and side of UI with no regrets. Combination of IT, healthcare, science and nice user interface is what he likes.

Aleš Vondra - previously worked with .NET, currently big fan of Node and React. Interested in clean code and managing software complexity.
