About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Do you feel like the buzzwords of non-monogamy (NM) can range from being super helpful, to entirely confusing when trying to communicate? Are you frustrated by the tone of moral superiority that surrounds certain words or concepts when they come up in community or online? You are certainly not alone!

Marla (NM therapist & educator) and Laura (NM relationship coach, author and educator) are here to share their ‘takes’ on some contentious NM buzzwords. They’ll discuss definitions, and provide strategies for communicating as clearly and effectively as possible in your relationships - even if it means still using some of that jargon.

Come on a journey with us to discuss the following terms and concepts:

  • Polyamory VS non-monogamy (given that they are often used interchangeably)
  • Hierarchy | non-hierarchy | egalitarian
  • Ethical non-monogamy VS Consensual non-monogamy VS Non-monogamy
  • Nesting partner | Anchor partner | Primary partner| what a "partner" is anyway

This workshop will include live auto-captions for accessibility, and a recorded transcript for those who cannot make it live. The q&a that follows the main presentation will not be recorded for attendee privacy.

Frequently asked questions

I can't make it live. Will I be able to watch the class after?

The class content will be recorded and all ticket holders will be sent access information for the recording on Sunday morning 5/18. You will miss out on the Q&A section, however, so if you can make it to class, we'd love to have you in the live discussion!

What about the rest of the polyamorous glossary and terms?

We're sticking with a few "meaty" concepts and terms for this class that we think folks will get a lot out of discussing, and that often cause some contention. If you're looking for general definitions of polyam terms, Laura's website has a glossary: www.readyforpolyamory.com/polyamory-glossary

I'd love to come but I have financial struggles. What are my options?

Contact the hosts! We have discounts available for folks with financial need. Messages will get a response within 48 hours. If you want to contribute to our scholarship fund, the "pay it forward" ticket option helps us offer a no one turned away for lack of funds policy.
