About this event

Financial Aid 101 (FA 101)/ FSA ID Workshop

Join us for an informative session about the ins and outs of financial aid! Whether you are a student, parent or guardian, this event is designed to help you navigate the financial aid process, including the FAFSA, scholarships, grants, and loans.

Time will be allotted for students (and parents, when required) to create FSA ID accounts, which require authentication up to five days before starting the FAFSA, at StudentAid.gov.

Make no mistake: Financial Aid is for EVERYONE.

During this in-person event, a financial aid expert will provide you with tips, information, and resources available to students in West Virginia as well as answer questions, ensuring you leave feeling confident and well-information about the financial aid process. Once the presentation is complete, there will be an opportunity for students and parents to create FSA IDs.

This event is free.

Register then mark your calendars and join us! Event reminders will be sent via email from Eventbrite .

Frequently asked questions

What is an FSA ID?

The FSA ID is an account username and password combination that allows students and parents to log in to StudentAid.gov and to identify themselves electronically to access U.S. Department of Education systems.

I've done the FAFSA before, do I really need to come to this event?

Short Answer: YES! Long Answer: While the FAFSA existed for many decades without any major changes, there have been changes. Key steps to make the process less stressful and more efficient will be shared in this presentation.

Our family will not qualify for "financial aid." We make too much money. Should we attend ?

Short Answer: Yes. Long Answer: The calculations used by financial aid professionals to determine eligibility varies depending on the type of funding the student seeks. If the student wants to apply for scholarships or loans, the FAFSA will be needed.

I don't like discussing my finances. How can attending help if I don't share specific information?

Your specific financial information is not a topic of discussion at Financial Aid 101. If you have questions specific to your situation and would like to ask questions after the presentation, you may do so with privacy.

I have already created an FSA ID, will I need to create a new account?

If you have previously created an FSA ID for yourself on the Federal Student Aid Website, you will not need to create another. You will use the same FSA ID
