In its inaugural year, The Watermill Center's reACT will feature special performances by past Watermill artist residents, providing them with a unique opportunity to return to Watermill and present original works that are intimately linked to The Center. During his January-February 2014 residency at Watermill, Jack Ferver worked on his dance-theater performance and art installation Chambre, created with Marc Swanson. Ferver returns to Watermill in October of 2016 for two groundbreaking performances.
American writer, choreographer and director Jack Ferver and American visual artist Marc Swanson take Jean Genets "The Maids" as a point of departure for a farcical and haunting attack on our culture of celebrity and greed. Ferver refracts Genet through many lenses, including the gruesome facts of the real-life murders that inspired "The Maids"; Lady Gagas infamous courtroom deposition speech; role-play; and a manic fantasy escape to the City of Lights.
Swansons mythic and evocative sculptures function as both freestanding artworks and a theatrical set. Ferver is joined by performers Jacob Slominski and Michelle Mola in an exquisite and outrageous performance that asks not how such a violent thing could have happened, but why things like this do not happen more often.
