J. Plank

J. Plank

Overview

J. Plank brings masterful lap steel, soulful vocals and vivid songwriting to an intimate solo concert at St. Paul’s.

After two decades as one of Austin’s most sought-after musicians, singer-songwriter and lap-steel virtuoso Jeff Plankenhorn—now performing as J. Plank—has made Vancouver Island his home.

Along the way, he has toured and recorded with celebrated artists including Ruthie Foster, Joe Ely, Ray Wylie Hubbard and Jimmy LaFave, earning a reputation as a remarkable instrumentalist and an exceptionally warm and engaging performer. His own music travels freely through blues, folk, roots-rock and soul, pairing a rich baritone voice with sharp-witted, thoughtful songwriting and wonderfully expressive guitar playing.

His acclaimed 2023 album Alone at Sea, produced by Colin Linden, revealed a more intimate and reflective side of his artistry. That spirit continued with The Bend, a stripped-down solo recording featuring only Plank’s voice, lap steel, acoustic guitar and piano.

This intimate concert at St. Paul’s United Church offers a rare opportunity to experience J. Plank exactly that way: alone onstage, drawing an audience into the songs, stories and extraordinary musicianship of a seasoned international performer.
