Dr. Steve Peters

Dr. Steve Peters is a highly respected figure in the field of equine neuroscience, renowned for his groundbreaking work in understanding the intricacies of the horse's brain. With a strong academic background and a passion for unraveling the mysteries of equine behavior and cognition, Dr. Peters has become a leading authority in the intersection of neuroscience and horsemanship.

Dr. Peters did his practicum at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Internship at Danbury Hospital in Danbury Connecticut and Residency and two year Post Doctoral Fellowship at Hartford Hospital in the Departments of Neurorehabilitation, Neurology and Neurosurgery.

After a successful medical career in Utah, Dr. Peters, took an early retirement, and moved to Mancos, Colorado, to spend time researching and teaching horse brain science to interested horsemen/women. He began receiving more requests for doing clinics, podcasts, zoom classes, and writing articles, both in the US and internationally. He is now busier than he was as a practicing doctor and he is making it possible for horse owners world wide to have access to his research. New books are being written, professional colaborations are forming, courses are being created, and the world of filming has opened to Dr. Peters. Exciting possibilities are in the making!

We recommend flying to Cedar Rapids (CID) Airport, which is 8.8 miles away from Cedar Rapids. The HOTEL at Kirkwood has a complementary free shuttle pickup and drop off from CID Airport.

The Hotel at Kirkwood has 70 rooms available in various price ranges. We are not holding a block of rooms. You must secure your own lodging. Other nearby hotels are an option as well.

What is there to do in Cedar Rapids and the surrounding area if I decide to extend my stay?

Cedar Rapids is known as an arts and cultural hub with great theater, live music and museums. The area is home to family-friendly sports teams including baseball and hockey. A growing culinary and craft brewery scene will tempt your taste buds. Cedar Ridge Distillery, excellent.

How does Dr. Peters obtain the horse brains?

Dr. Peters obtains the horse brains through a supplier of biological specimens and science education materials to universities and medical laboratories.

What if I don't want to participate in the dissection?

Class participants are encouraged to put on disposable gloves and handle the dissected brain. If a student does not want to actively be involved in this part of the class there will be no pressure to do so. It is a marvelous opportunity that most participants take part in.

What do you do with the dissected brain after the clinic?

We honor the horse with a special ceremony and burial at the end of the clinic. All are invited to attend. This is a moving ceremony that has touched many souls who have decided to join us with this honoring.

What is your refund policy?

Cancellations before 30 days prior to event refunded at 100%, between 15-30 days refunded at 50%, between 1-14 days NO refund. Cancellations must be confirmed with the event organizer. Fees are non-refundable, so they won't be returned to the ticket buyer unless the event is canceled.

Can I give my tickets to someone else if I can't make it?

Tickets are transferable and may be used by someone other than the person registered for the event. Transfers must be completed within 48 hours of the event by contacting Michelle at riverrockranchproductions@gmail.com
