Please join us for the Annual Irish Institute Lecture featuring Dr. Seán Healy. This presentation will reflect on what Dr. Healy has learned in more than 50 years addressing poverty and related issues. It will also identify key challenges facing societies today and propose a framework that could guide sustainable positive outcomes.

Seán Healy is from Cork in Ireland. He worked for more than a decade in West Africa and for more than 40 years in Ireland on a wide range of socio-economic policy issues. He was the founder and first CEO of Social Justice Ireland, an independent social justice think tank. He holds a PhD in sociology from Fordham University. One of his main policy interests has been in the area of Universal Basic Income.

Seán has worked on many government task forces in Ireland and internationally and has played a key role in the ongoing dialogue between Government and the community/voluntary sector. He chaired the Irish Government’s task force on engaging communities with local government.

He has done work with, among others, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the EU Economic and Social Committee, the Council of Europe and the OECD as well as the UN on a wide range of policy issues.

Together with Brigid Reynolds, Seán has written or edited forty-three books on public policy as well as three books on spirituality for social engagement. Their work has been published in a wide range of other books and journals.

An unexpected fact about Seán: he won the Earth Day Marathon in New York on March 16th, 1975.
