Q&A and Book Signing with Wendy H. Steele

What if you and just a handful of other dedicated, generous women could affect powerful change? That's the question Wendy H. Steele set out to answer when she founded Impact100, https://impact100global.org/, one of today's most significant grassroots organizations. Come celebrate the release of her book with a Q&A at Bookstore1 with a champagne toast and book signing to follow at North Star Fine Jewelry & Gift Boutique (located right across the Breezeway), https://northstarfinejewelry.com/.

This ticketed event is in the loft at our store at The Mark, 117 S. Pineapple Ave. Tickets are $18 and include a copy of Invitation to Impact: Lighting the Path to Community Transformation.

About the Book:

In Invitation to Impact: Lighting the Path to Community Transformation, philanthropist Wendy Steele tells the inspiring story of Impact100 - from its birth as an idea jotted in a spiral notebook to its continued growth as an international organization dedicated to helping women transform the communities they live in.

A book about making an impact, the power of generosity, collective action, and so much more, Invitation to Impact details the design and growth of Impact100, as well as the mistakes and pitfalls Wendy overcame along the way. Through the experiences Wendy shares, Invitation to Impact is a book that makes clear the impact giving can make when we all accept the invitation.

About the Author:

Recognized by Forbes in 2021 as one of 50 women over 50 who are leading the world in impact, Wendy H. Steele is the Founder of Impact100, a grassroots global movement in women’s philanthropy. Since inception in 2001, Impact100 chapters have invested more than $123 million in local nonprofits across more than 65 cities and four countries.

A self-proclaimed, “recovering banker,” before focusing exclusively on philanthropic work, Wendy enjoyed a successful career in banking that culminated in a Senior Vice President role after observing how her grandfather’s banking career helped countless members of his community. The importance of giving back with the intent to leave the world a little better than she found it was instilled in her from a young age, leading her to see that each of us has something important to give.

Steele’s work in philanthropy is noted in several books including, The Transformative Power of Women’s Philanthropy; Women, Wealth and Giving; Women’s Giving Circles; and The Right Sisters – Modern Women Inventors. PBS Television created an hour-long documentary entitled, Impact 100: Changing Lives, Strengthening Communities, which highlights the work of Impact100 Pensacola Bay Area, the world’s largest Impact100 organization.

In 2020, Wendy was named a Distinguished Honoree of the Jones Prize in Philanthropy, an award which "honors someone who demonstrates the willingness to volunteer time, resources, and talents to improve the human condition, beyond themselves." Considered the Nobel Prize for community service, Steele was awarded the 2014 Jefferson Award for Public Service for her work with Impact100.

Wendy believes wholeheartedly in giving back to her community. Whether serving clients, her community, or Impact100 chapters, she has always led with a unique combination of knowledge and generosity. Wendy believes that, in giving to others, we gain in incalculable ways, and we should encourage others to do the same. She observes that there are two kinds of people: those who see the problems in the world and realize they can be a part of the solution and those who still need to be invited to the party.

Wendy will be in conversation with Susan North. Susan literally “IHOPPED” from being an IHOP franchisee, owning and operating 10 restaurants all over Arkansas, to pursue a career in the jewelry industry in 2017. Susan and her incredibly supportive husband, Craig, moved to Sarasota in 2021, opening North Star Fine Jewelry & Gift Boutique located right across the Breezeway from Bookstore1. North Star is more than a gallery of award winning jewelry design and art, but a destination to gather and celebrate life’s milestones, anniversaries, and commemorate each other’s achievements. They are Proud and privileged to co-host the launch of Wendy H. Steele's new book. Susan is also an Impact 100 member.
