The WBDC, Invent2026, and mHUB invite you to a special free event to discuss the opportunity for innovators, researchers, and startups to use the Federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) fund to help further the R&D necessary for commercialization. Join us to learn more about the WBDC's InventIllinois program and get a chance to meet the founders that are applying for SBIR grants to move their innovations forward. The event will officially launch a partnership between the WBDC’s InventIllinois program, designed to help Illinois-based high-science entrepreneurs access federal seed money to fund their technology, and mHUB, Chicago's first innovation center for physical product development and manufacturing, with the goal of increasing the development of tech transfer companies across Illinois.

Where is Chicago’s tech scene going next and what opportunities are there for us to continue to compete globally in a world of constant innovation? <A HREF="https://www.istcoalition.org/data/index/startup-activity-reaches-new-heights/#KeyFindings?platform=hootsuite" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">New data from </A>the Illinois Science and Technology Center (ISTC) suggests that tech transfer startups that turn high-science research into marketable products could be the key to staying competitive. Looking at startups emerging in the last five years from Illinois universities, ISTC found tech transfer startups comprised just 15 percent of the 942 startups between 2013 and 2017, yet raised more than 55 percent of the $877.5 million of outside capital invested in these university-supported companies.
