About this event

What we’ll be doing: Invasive species are those that are non-native to local ecosystems and can be harmful to the environment. Autumn olive and buckthorn are invasive shrubs that can quickly colonize and outcompete native plants. Invasive plant patrollers will help restore the native habitat of the Averill Preserve by manually removing these shrubs. This event is recommended for ages 10 and up. Those under 15 must have a parent present or a chaperone.

What to bring: Gloves, water, safety glasses, and loppers or handsaws if available . We will be working outside in shrubs, tall grasses and brush, so please dress accordingly for the event and weather. Closed toed shoes are required. We will also provide extra hand saws, loppers and gloves for volunteers to use if needed.

Location and time: The Averill Preserve, a 72 acre natural area located along the Tittabawasee River. The event will start at 9 AM on Saturday June 22nd, 2024.

Directions: The natural area is located off of Saginaw Road, right near the intersection of N Hope Rd and E Wackerly Road. There is a small paved parking lot near the road and a picnic pavilion where an LFC staff member will sign-in volunteers!

Please RSVP to receive updates. All events are subject to cancellation due to heavy rain or extreme heat. Please email any questions to Benjamin VanDyke at bvandyke@littleforks.org.

We appreciate your willingness to help us with our conservation and habitat efforts here in mid-Michigan and in the Midland community!
