About this event

This class is an introduction to blacksmithing where you will practice the fundamental skills and techniques involved in blacksmithing. You will have seven and a half hours hours to complete up to four guided projects, if you complete all four with enough time remaining you may use the remainder of the time to practice by creating your own project. The four projects are a fire poker, bottle opener, coat hook, and a decorative key-chain, you may complete them in any order.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need to bring?

All clothing worn must be organic materials such as cotton or wool, and you must wear leather shoes, as the heat involved in blacksmithing can melt synthetics. Shoes must be close toed, boots encouraged, and pants are mandatory. Hair must be tied up and loose jewelry must be stowed.

Is there time for lunch?

There's always time for lunch. We will take 1 hour for lunch (or less if you so choose), and it is recommended you bring a lunch and drink, otherwise the Deer Harbor Marina has several fine options to choose from.

What ages are allowed?

I encourage all ages to pursue a craft but blacksmithing can be dangerous and due to insurance reasons, any people under the age of 16 will require parental supervision during the class.
