Instructor - Franklin Reynolds

Franklin Reynolds has 40+ years of experience as a software engineer, now retired as the Software Director of Suitable Technologies, a telepresence robotics company. He is fascinated by the rapid evolution of robotics and AI technologies and their growing impact on all of our lives.


Class Description

Introdution to the XRP will provide a gentle, hands-on introduction to robotics. Participants will build their own robot (an XRP: eXperiential Robotics Platform). Students will learn to use motors, servos and multiple sensors via programming exercises the use Blockly, a beginner friendly grapical programming environment. A background in electronics and software development would be helpful but is not necessary.


Material Fee

The materials fee for this class is $100. This is separate from the ticket price and is to reimburse the instructor for any tools or materials used in this class. This will be paid once, directly to the instructor at the start of the first class meeting. This instructor accepts payments in cash.


Class Goals

- Assemble XRP robot (no soldering is required)

- Learn to program bot using Blockly (a graphical programming environment)

- Introduction to motor control, sensors and actuators


Material Supplied

XRP kits, batteries, class notes


Prerequisites

Must be able to use a desktop computer and chrome browser.
