Description:

In this workshop, we will begin by dyeing protein fibers with acid dyes in mason jars. While the fibers dry, we’ll explore basic tapestry techniques and composition. Techniques covered include warping a frame loom, plain weave, Ghiordes knots (cut and uncut), soumak stitch, and eccentric weft. Instructional videos will be available for future reference.


Materials provided: Dye auxiliaries (salt, citric acid), acid dyes, 8"x10" plexiglass frame loom (yours to keep), tapestry comb, tapestry needles (wooden and plastic), variety of undyed yarns (protein fibers), a selection of pre-dyed yarns to add into weavings, gloves, masks, printed instructions, use of hot plates, buckets, measuring spoons, measuring cups, mason jars, buffet pans, & scissors
