Introduction to Tablet Weaving

The Weavers Guild of Greater Cincinnati, Inc. was created in 1948 as a non-profit educational organization to promote interest in handweaving. Today, the Guild offers education in a wide range of fiber processes and techniques, including weaving, felting, spinning, basketry, knitting, and dyeing. Guild members are from the Cincinnati metropolitan area and surrounding communities, as well as from Kentucky and Indiana.Members range in experience from beginners to professionals. All benefit from the Guild's priorities: education through classes, workshops, programs, study groups; sharing information and fiber techniques with other members and community groups; and promoting and supporting local fiber producers and businesses.After 50 years of meeting in various churches throughout Greater Cincinnati, the Guild has its own home at 4870 Gray Road in Spring Grove Village.

<h3>Introduction to Tablet Weaving</h3>Tuesday, March 10 and Thursday, March 126pm-9pm (both days)Instructor: Janie Yates$70 WGGC member/$95 non-member$15 material fee, payable to instructorSkill level: Beginner. No weaving experience needed.Class limit: 6Tablet weaving is a centuries old technique of weaving sturdy narrow bands with a multitude of uses. There are serveral ways to create patterns with this technique. In this introductory class, students will learn one of the simplest techniques – threaded in pattern. We will cover the basics of reading a pattern draft, measuring a warp, threading the cards, starting and ending wefts, and managing selvedges. Participants will be using inkle looms provided by the instructor; however, there will be a demonstration of how to weave with tablets on other small looms, in a warp weighted or back strap set up, to illustrate other ways to weave with cards. This is an introductory class and no weaving experience is required.Students should bring scissors and note-taking materials, as well as the $15 materials fee.Questions about this class? Three registrations are required for a class to be held. Students will be notified before the start date if a class is canceled due to an insufficient number of students.
