Introduction to practice: A guided studio tour + talk is an opportunity to meet Designer-Maker Patrick Adeney and tour his new workshop and studio space in Williamstown North, Melbourne for the first time.
Patrick will show groups through the space twice daily, in morning and afternoon sessions: (10.30 am + 1.30pm) The tour consists of: Meet and greet, a walk through the space, including machinery workshop, office, showroom, and mezzanine.
Throughout the tour, Patrick will introduce guests to a variety of machinery and equipment that is used to produce his work.
Selective demonstrations of various machinery will be offered to show some of the processes used to turn roughsawn timber into a resolved piece of design.
Questions are encouraged throughout the tour, as Patrick outlines the intentions behind the specific fit-out and work-flow of the space. Once the tour is complete, Patrick will guide the guests to the showroom where I will introduce my practice and outline the objectives and role that Studio Adeney has to play within the context of the Australian design industry.
Patrick will then discuss the development of a new piece of furniture. Following a year of development, and various prototypes- we discuss the design challenges and constraints of such a piece within the context of his practice, and what he is aiming to achieve through this product.
