About this event

Permaculture can be viewed as the toolbox which holds the tools of sustainable living. Much more than a gardening system, it can help us work with soil, water, nutrient flows, plants, animals, buildings, the sun and our community to design resilant, vibrant, life renewing and positive future. Given the challenges that lie ahead for meeting humanities’ needs, such as Peak Oil, Permaculture represents an important skill set and a new language of pattern literacy.

WHAT: This short format course will introduce the foundations of Permaculture, a whole systems design approach for sustainable human settlement. Permaculture (Permanent + Agriculture + Culture) encourages us to live with an understanding of place and how to work with natural forces on the landscape to try and meet our needs from the land with as little outside energy input as possible.

This course will cover the fundamentals of Permaculture, including ethics, principles, pattern understanding, zone and sector analysis, reading the landscape, observation, assessment and design skills. We will intersperse the theorhetical elements with hands on activities here on the farm to help bring the content into a deeper level of embodiment.
