Welcome to your beginner garment sewing course! This course is designed to teach you the skills you need to get started on your journey towards a unique and stylish Handmade wardrobe. Whether you're a complete novice or have some sewing experience but would like to step into the world of making clothes, this course will guide you through the process of creating your own beautiful garments. Throughout the course, you will learn about different fabrics, patterns, and techniques that will help you bring your dream wardrobe to life. Get ready to unleash your creativity and start sewing!

Workshop at a Glance:
Join us in the studio to relax and learn on this introductory workshop- improve your sewing abilities, and gain confidence in your ability to create your own clothing. This workshop is a wonderful way to discover a new hobby, and join a lovely community of makers all creating their very own clothes that not only fit but help reduce the environmental impact of fast fashion! During this course have all the support and guidance you need to get started, from going shopping and choosing what to make through to the finishing touches that make your clothes beautiful, inside and out! This workshop is run as a 7-week course with each session lasting a couple of hours.



Skill Focus and Level …
This course is ideal for anyone hoping to create beautiful garments- whether this will be your first time sitting at a machine, or you have some sewing experience and need a little extra support, this workshop is a perfect first step! Each week you will be guided through the process of creating your own clothes. By the end of the course, you will have your very own finished garment. Skills covered during this workshop:

  • Maintaining and using a sewing machine
  • Taking your measurements and choosing your size
  • Selecting and reading a sewing pattern
  • Choosing Fabric and shopping for notions
  • Preparing and Cutting your fabric
  • Garment construction and key dressmaking techniques
  • Creating beautiful seams and finishing your garments



Course Cost and What’s Included?
This workshop costs £180. We like to make sure you have everything you need to get making and having fun, so we provide you with EVERYTHING you need for this workshop including all the fabrics, patterns, and tools. You also have the option to book and use one of our wonderful computerised brother sewing machines. All our classes have lovely small group sizes of up to 6 people so you will get lots of 1-2-1 support from the tutor! Refreshments and snacks are available for free throughout the sessions - please let us know if you have any dietary requirements.

Creativity is a journey, so even after you finish your course, we still want to make sure you have lots of support from us and our community! Following the workshop, you will receive a comprehensive illustrated companion guidebook that walks you through everything that we cover in the sessions (there are even some bonus techniques included such as inserting zips and buttonholes)!

All workshops allow you to access a private community Facebook group where you can share future makes, ask questions, and find out about SWG social events- we will also share tutorials, video guides, and resources just for those in the group.
