Please Note: There is limited available slots for this workshop to ensure that each participant gets adequate one-on-one instruction. Since there is plenty of interest in these types of workshops, we ask that you only sign up if you have serious intentions of participating.

In order to accommodate as many participants that we can, we ask that if you are unable to attend after signing up, please let us know 48 hours prior, so that we can fill the slot with someone from the waiting list.

Under the guidance of MDIFW staff and instructors, learn to use your new handgun. This is a basic workshop to help new users to gain comfort with the safe use and handling of a handgun while improving your skills and confidence.

If you have taken this course before please allow others to take part in this course. We will have more advanced skills trainings in the future.

In this introductory workshop, you will learn:

  • safe range procedures and etiquette
  • safe firearms handling, basic knowledge of firearms
  • types of actions, load and unload safely each action
  • the different types of ammunition
  • the different types of sights
  • loading/unloading firearms
  • proper grip/positioning
  • shooting with live rounds

Walk away with a better understanding and comfort-level handling and operating a handgun. Handguns and ammo supplied. Bring Hearing and Eye Protection, if you have it. If not, we will have loaners for you to use.

This workshop is geared for adults new to shooting and handgun use.
