Introduction to Beekeeping Class

About Jennifer:I began learning beekeeping in 2003 from a friend who had several hives across Marin. In 2008 I bought four of my own hives and caught my first swarm, and each subsequent year have added to my growing apiary by selectively breeding and grafting queens from my best hives. I’ve gained knowledge from the many classes, workshops, and mentors who have taken me under their wing over the years. I’m a biologist by training and have taught in formal and informal settings, from elementary age to college and one-on-one mentoring, so teaching beekeeping was only a natural progression for me. I coach beekeepers, keep hives for clients, and raise queens and nucleus colonies for sale.I view beekeeping as a mutually beneficial partnership between bees and people, and I take a hands-on approach to caring for my hives, with an emphasis on monitoring and inspections, proper nutrition, disease and pest management for hives that are healthy and happy.By selecting queens from my best hives and purchasing from other breeders over the years, I’m working towards the goal of raising locally adapted, mite and disease resistant bees.please see my website for mote information at:www.jennifer-berrybees.com

<p>Curious about bees and beekeeping? Thinking about starting a hive of your own but not sure where to start? Join Jennifer for a basic introduction to beekeeping. We&#x27;ll learn a bit about the equipment and setup to get started, then we&#x27;ll put on protective gear and open hives! We&#x27;ll start out easy and gentle for those who may have some reservations or even fears about bees and getting stung. Jennifer has been raising hives for almost two decades,  and selects from only her gentlest sweetest hives. You&#x27;ll be able to get up close and personal to learn a little about bee behavior and biology, taste honey fresh from the comb, and maybe if she&#x27;s not hiding we&#x27;ll get to see the queen, too!</p>
