About this event

  • 2 hours

Nature Journaling is a wonderful way to learn about the natural world. You don’t need any prior art experience to participate; all it requires is a sense of curiosity and an interest in closely observing the world around you. All you need is a pencil and a sketchbook to get started!

Kathryn Owen has worked in informal learning and environmental education for over 30 years. She has taught audiences ranging from preschoolers to graduate students, with the goal of helping people of all ages appreciate and care for the natural world. She has been nature journaling for the past five years, and recently participated in a tour of Tanzania led by John Muir Laws, one of the founders of the worldwide nature journaling movement.

Suggested supplies

  • HB graphite pencil (any pencil will do, but the HB is a nice option as it can make both light and darker marks)
  • Pencil sharpener
