Get set for a thread-filled thrill at the Granville Center for the Arts with our "Intro to Sewing: Getting to Know Your Machine" workshop! Under the expert guidance of Kathryn Gorney from Quilting Bees Studio, this dynamic workshop is tailored to help you harness the full potential of your home sewing machine. Are you curious about all those mysterious buttons? Kathryn will unveil the secrets of your machine, teaching you everything from threading the needle to mastering various stitches, navigating sharp corners, and even completing your inaugural sewing project!

Just bring your sewing machine, its manual (if you've got it), thread, and your enthusiasm—everything else you need, including project supplies, will be ready and waiting. Dive into hands-on learning and transform theoretical knowledge into practical skills.

****Due to limited space, we require a refundable $2 deposit to secure your spot. This deposit will be refunded when you attend the first class, or you can choose to donate it to the center. ****

No sewing machine at home? No problem! Just reach out to our Creative Director, Ryan McGuire, at ryan@granvillearts.org, and we'll see if we can find you one to borrow for the day.

About Kathryn Gorney (granvillequiltingbees.com):

I began my sewing journey with my first quilt, made in 2011 after my mother insisted that I attend a weekend "quilt camp" with her. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, but I made an entire twin-size quilt (mostly machine appliquéd) and won a prize for the "biggest smile" at the end of the weekend!

After that weekend, I didn't do much sewing until a couple years later, after I had kids. I started sewing again, making quilts (of my own design), curtains, and attempted kids clothes! I haven't stopped sewing since! I am mostly self-taught and not a huge fan of "sewing/quilting rules"!

I began long arm quilting (stitching the 3 layers of the quilt together on a huge sewing machine that moves over the quilt) in 2017, and very quickly fell in love!

Sewing and quilting continue to be my passion, and I want EVERYONE to know how awesome it is!

I currently quilt and teach classes through the Granville Recreation Department and out of my home studio in Granville, where I live with my three kids, husband, and our beloved dog, Jim!

Other than quilting, I co-teach a variety of art and craft workshops in our small town. My professional experience is in mental health counseling, and I currently work a "day job" with a nonprofit adoption agency as an adoption supervisor.
