About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours
  • Free venue parking

This class will introduce you to the basic concepts of leather work. You will try out the tools of the trade, learn about different types of leather, and then you will get to hand stitch your own card sleeve.

Students will receive a pre-cut card sleeve blank which they will then fashion into a finished and functional card sleeve. All by hand.

What will be covered:

  • leather working tools and their purpose
  • the different tannages of leather and their uses
  • saddle stitching: a technique for hand stitching leather
  • assembly and finishing of a card sleeve (including pricking stitching holes, saddle stitching, edged finishing, and conditioning the final product)

This is a class built around using traditional hand tools. There are no sewing machines involved. If you are experiencing arthritis or another condition that might effect your ability to make repeated small hand movements (like pulling a small needle through a stitching hole) please keep that in mind while registering for this course. Also keep in mind that I'm still happy to have you and will do my best to accommodate you in whatever way I am able. If you have any concerns please email me at jordan@wrightandrede.com before signing up.

Class admission closes 24 hours prior to event.

Frequently asked questions

What is the parking situation like?

There is a free lot in front of the building. There is also free street parking along Lee road. There is a large, gated parking lot behind the building that costs $1.00 to enter.

There are a lot of doors on this building. Which one do I go in?

The main entrance to my section of the building is located on the corner of Mayfield and Lee. The double doors are located just to the left of the Starbucks. Use the buzzer system to let me know you have arrived.

I thought you buzzed me in, but the door is still locked?

The door unlocks *very* quietly. If after buzzing me the door seems to be locked, just hang on, because I'll be right down to let you in. :) She's an old building.
