Event description
Front-end software development focuses on what you see on the screen in a website or on an app. You can totally learn this too!

About this Event

Front-end software development starts with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We will teach you the basics, and help you decide if taking our Full Stack JavaScript Bootcamp is right for you.

About the Workshop:

THIS WORKSHOP MEETS TWO EVENINGS IN A ROW - YOU WILL REGISTER FOR THE FIRST DATE BUT WILL MEET BOTH EVENINGS FROM 6 - 9 PM

Our Intro to HTML, CSS, & JavaScript Workshop is specifically designed to prepare you for our Full Stack JavaScript Bootcamp at Grand Circus. Get a glimpse of what it's like to work as a software developer and insights on how a Full Stack JavaScript Bootcamp can support your career goals. We are here for you!

In this workshop, you’ll build on the skills you learned in Intro to Coding (or have learned on your own), and learn the three major front-end frameworks: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Step-by-step, you’ll code alongside an instructor who will help you put these principles into practice by building a project. We deliberately keep the class size small so you’ll get a ton of interaction and coaching from our instructors to lead you to success!

You’ll leave the workshop with a finished project for your growing coding portfolio and feeling prepared and confident for bootcamp. By the end, you’ll know how to make web experiences more user-friendly, interactive, and exciting! This workshop will set you up for success in completing bootcamp Unit 1 pre-work, too.

Who Should take the Workshop:

  • Anyone considering a Full Stack JavaScript Bootcamp at Grand Circus. You’ll leave with the skills and confidence you’ll need to complete the bootcamp pre-work and start your path to becoming a software developer

Student Prerequisites:

  • You should be comfortable operating your laptop: starting up, opening software, copying and pasting, opening a web browser, searching the web, going to a specific URL (web address), and navigating within a website.
  • To be ready for this workshop, you should have already written your first line of code either in our Free Intro to Coding workshop or on your own.

Additionally, you should be able to:

  • Give a basic explanation of the roles of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in a web page
  • Add provided HTML tags to a document
  • Create new CSS rules following examples
  • Recognize variables and conditionals in JavaScript
  • You’ll need access to a laptop or desktop with an internet connection

Software to Install: Visual Studio Code: Download Visual Studio Code - Mac, Linux, Windows.

Google Chrome is the preferred web browser for this workshop: Google Chrome - Download the Fast, Secure Browser from Google

A Zoom account is required for this course - register and download for free: http://zoom.us

You do not need a special degree to work in tech; anyone can be a developer, but only if you are passionate about it. So come give it a try with us!

We will be offering remote Intro to HTML, CSS, & JavaScript Workshop over the course of two days in a row from 6 - 9 pm. You will register for the first of two dates, and class will meet on both evenings.

Upcoming remote Intro to Front-End workshop dates:

  • 1/11 & 1/12
  • 1/25 & 1/26
