- Event lasts 1 day 23 hours
Jay Fisher of Long View Farm will guide us through a weekend of learning about draft horse care, safety, gear, and driving. Participants will be able to independently harness a horse and practice driving by the end of the course. No prior horse experience is required.
Friday: Evening Social and introduction to draft horse philosophy. Appetizers provided, we invite you to bring a potluck dish and byob.
Saturday: Basics of horse communication, care, harnessing, and driving. Participants will each have a chance to practice harnessing and driving. Morning refreshments and lunch provided.
Sunday: Lingering questions, hoof care, and more hands on experience. Morning refreshments and lunch provided.

Course cost: $165/participant. A $50 deposit is due at registration. The remaining $115 can be paid day-of by cash or check.
If there is enough interest we will schedule a second weekend in the fall for more immersive working experience at Long View Farm in Charlestown NH.

Refund policy: a refund is available up to 7 days before the start of this event. Please note that eventbrite does not refund ticket fees (~7% of the ticket price).
Instead of the refund minus eventbrite fees we can offer a credit equal to your ticket price towards any other class or event at Dancing Bear Farm.
Frequently asked questions
This course is held entirely outdoors, so bring what you need to be comfortable outside all day (layers, sunscreen/bug spray, water bottle, closed-toe shoes)
On-site camping available for $10/participant which includes an on-site bathroom and fire pit with firewood. There are also a number of hotels in the area, from the Claremont Motor Lodge (~100/night) to the Common Man Inn (~$200/night). Airbnb is also an option, ranging from ~$80-200/night.
