Intro to Cold Process Soapmaking

Introduction to Cold Process Soapmaking will teach participants how to make handmade soap with simple ingredients and basic equipment. During the class we will make a batch of soap together and cover:

• Safety gear and precautions
• Basic cold process chemistry
• Ingredient selection and storage
• How to create your own recipes
• How to cut, cure and store soaps
• And more!

Ticket Options:

Basic Rate ($49/person) includes:

• Class handout
• 2 hours of hands-on instruction
• 1 bar of cured soap

Artisan Rate ($69/person) includes:

• All of the above, plus
• 1 reusable silicone soap mold
• 1 lb of soap, made during class

FAQs

How do I get to the venue and where can I find parking?

This class will be held at Motor City Soap's studio, a makerspace in a neighborhood called Core City in Detroit. We're located on Loraine St. just south of Grand River, near the I-94 and I-96 overpass. The studio is accessible by public transportation on the Grand River bus (#3) and the Warren bus (#8). Parking is located in front of the builiding on Loraine St. or in the back, through the electronic sliding gate. If the gate is closed, call or text 313-757-2129 and Caitlyn will let you in.

What should I wear to this session?

Please bring a long-sleeved shirt and wear closed toe shoes for safety. Your clothes should be comfortable and items you don't mind getting stained with oil. Motor City Soap will provide safety goggles and gloves but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

Is my ticket transferrable?

Yes! If you are unable to attend after purchasing your ticket, feel free to pass it along to another soapmaker.

Is there an age restriction?

Due to the nature of making soap from scratch, this class is designed for participants 18 and up. However, Caitlyn is happy to work with you to create a special event for little humans! Contact caitlyn (at) motorcitysoap (dot) com to start planning.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Nope, just check in with Caitlyn upon arrival.
