Problem solve how to build your favorite animal inspired by the story. Use Mrs. D's recipe to start developing your animal's unique character and journey.

About this event

Welcome to Session 1 of D.L Tucker's Artist in Residence Introductory Workshop Series with Sankofa Children's Museum of African Cultures! Join us for a fun and inspiring event where 3rd-5th Grade students make animal marionettes inspired by a West African Story about a cat that journeys to find the end of the world. RSVP only if you are able to attend class on Saturday AND Sunday. All materials included. Slots will be filled on a first come first serve basis. Students are highly encouraged to come with their puppets and family members to the Juneteenth celebration at the museum on Saturday, June 15th. Students will showcase their puppet parade from 2:00-3:00pm on Saturday but are welcomed to join the event earlier!

Is there parking?

Street parking available.

What supplies do I need to bring?

All art supplies will be provided. Your student is encouraged to bring a small water bottle and a light snack.

Can I bring my younger or older children to the workshop?

This workshop is curated for 3rd-5th graders. Please do not bring children younger or older. Reserved spaces are ONLY for ticket holders.

Do you need previous experience to attend?

No previous art experience necessary! Enthusiasm and curiosity for puppets is all that is needed. When participating in classes that are offered in series, please only RSVP if you are available to attend BOTH classes. The two days are needed to complete the project.
