About this event

Make a one-of-a-kind mosaic in one of Austin's only hands-on workshops led by professional artists!

Take in the art, history, and culture of Austin as you learn, connect, and create a mosaic memento of this unique experience.

Our workshops are perfect for people of all ages, abilities, and skill levels. The experience begins with an introduction to the art form, followed by detailed instruction on the materials, tools, and process of creating an original mosaic artwork.

You will have access to our expansive selection of tiles like shimmering glass, handmade ceramic, repurposed mirror, natural stone, and more to create your mosaic.

By the end of the workshop, you will have:

  • A new appreciation for this ancient art form
  • Knowledge of how to create mosaic art
  • A handmade artwork to take home

Our instructors are professional artists with decades of teaching experience who can't wait to introduce you to the magical art form of mosaics!

Frequently asked questions

Who are the instructors?

Our introductory workshops are most often taught by Katie or J, who are both practicing professional artists in Austin. They have a combined 30 years of experience in art education and make learning mosaics fun and engaging!

Where do I park?

Park in The Mosaic Workshop designated parking spots, or if full, park further down the lot. Please do not park in Broad Studios parking spots.

How do I get to the studio?

We are located at Levander Loop and Airport Blvd. right next to the ceramic studio, Broad Studios Clubhouse. Follow the vibrant fence mural to the building on the left with the mosaics and enter through our colorful front door!

Is the studio wheelchair accessible?

Yes! We have a ramped garage door entrance, and the studio is flat and level. Our doors are all 34" wide. The bathroom is 70" x 88" and will comfortably accommodate a wheelchair.

Do I need to wear anything special?

We strongly recommend wearing closed-toed shoes as we are a practicing mosaic studio. Additionally, we advise against large/poofy sleeves that might make it difficult to place tiles.

Can kids make mosaics?

Yes! We have had children as young as 5 years old make mosaics and have a great time doing it. Little ones with shorter attention spans are welcome to take a break and run around in our garden.

Organized by

I am a native Texan and a mural painter, mosaicist, public artist, community art advocate, curator and educator. Originally from Houston and a graduate of the University of Texas in Sociology, I went on to live and work abroad for the better half of a decade, painting numerous large-scale murals across the US and in countries as far reaching as New Zealand, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan.

I have 20 years of experience creating public art mosaics and murals for clients and communities and over 10 years of experience as an arts educator.

In 2018, I co-founded The Mosaic Workshop, an art studio that empowers community members of all ages and abilities to learn the medium of mosaic through workshops and collaborative mosaic mural projects.
