With 11,000 members, NASW-CA is the largest chapter in the nation. NASW-USC is a local unit within NASW-CA, Region I. Our mission is to advance and enhance the professional development of its members, which include USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work students, alumni, faculty and staff, through networking, advocacy, professional development and resource sharing. Our Unit is unique in its desire to bring together MSW students and working professionals, on a level playing field, in accomplishing this mission.Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention and Services (RSVP)Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention and Services (RSVP) exists to facilitate the success of students by providing advocacy and confidential counseling to those who have experienced sexual/gender-based harm during their time at USC. Through its educational programs, RSVP fosters a better understanding of sexual violence, relationship abuse, stalking, and healthy relationships/sexuality. Above all, RSVP serves as a haven for students and provides opportunities to make change on campus, through its educational programs and peer outreach program,VOICE. RSVP fosters an environment that enriches the USC experience across lines of gender, gender identity, race, ethnicity, class, ability and sexual orientation.

Intimate partner violence (IPV) has no face: it sees no race, no class, no gender and no sexual orientation. It is on the frontline of intersectionality, with those impacted facing these issues through the lens of their multiple social identities. 
Please join the National Association of Social Workers USC Unit, USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work Alumni Association and Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention and Service (RSVP) for an important discussion on IPV as it impacts individuals, families and communities. Speakers will approach IPV from an intersectional lens, providing attendees a nuanced understanding of the role of oppression, historical and generational trauma, institutional discrimination and other “isms” play in each of their lives.
The evening will consist of a series of short “TED” talk style presentations featuring four phenomenal speakers, each of whom will shed light on various aspects of IPV as it relates to their multiple social identities and/or the identities of the communities they engage in their work. The presentations will be followed by a smaller group conversation and activity that will address the following question: 
As a professional, how do you convert conversations around intimate partner violence into action you can take to aid vulnerable populations and inform the way you approach your practice?
The session will finish up with a Q&A session and reflections from our moderators.
**Licensed social workers attending in-person can earn 2 CEUs.**
Complimentary admission includes a taco bar dinner and non-alcoholic drinks. Parking is available for $12 in the structure behind the Radisson Hotel at the Figueroa Street Parking Plaza (Parking Structure #2)

Moderators:
Marquitta Dorsey, Ph.D. Adjunct Lecturer, University of Southern California
Marquitta Dorsey, Ph.D is currently an adjunct lecturer her at the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work. She has worked at each practice level of social work including micro, mezzo and macro domains in various roles. From years of work in case management to local government to co-leading an agency servicing underrepresented youth, Marquitta has developed a research agenda that highlights disparities in teen birth rates. She expects to continue building upon her research by understanding factors related to the well-being of economically disadvantaged black females. Dr. Dorsey received her MSW from the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work and her Ph.D from the University of California, Los Angeles. 
 
Susan Hess, LCSW, Clinical Assistant Professor, University of Southern California
Susan serves as a clinical assistant professor of field education in the Children Youth and Families Department. Through her private consulting, training and expert witness testimony practice, Susan demonstrates her primary areas of expertise in intimate partner violence and trauma-informed care. She is an avid promoter of cutting-edge research and holistic approaches to trauma-informed practices. Susan is also the co-founder and co-chair of the Trauma-Informed Task Force of Greater Los Angeles.

Norma Cumpian, Life Coach, Anti-Recidivism Coalition 
Norma Cumpian was featured in the documentary Sin by Silence where she was a member of Convicted Women Against Abuse. CWAA was an initiative that helped change laws for women who experienced intimate partner violence and were incarcerated. Norma Cumpian joined the Anti-Recidivism Coalition in March 2016 after nearly five years working in the nonprofit/justice reform sector.  In her current role as Life Coach, Norma has firsthand experience of the many challenges of reentry, making her a compassionate and effective guide for young people learning to navigate society following release from prison. In addition to her role as service provider, Norma is a fierce advocate for incarcerated women and girls. <A HREF="http://files.constantcontact.com/0bd71b39301/18379ac3-e930-4255-92f8-9dd5e03d96cc.pdf?ver=1507483239000" TARGET="_blank" TITLE="IPV Speaker Bios" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Click here to read full bio</A>.

Brenda Ingram, EdD, LCSW, Director of Clinical Services, Peace Over Violence
Dr. Ingram is a licensed clinical social worker and an educator who has over 25 years working in the mental health and education fields. Her dissertation focused on the impact of community violence on the academic careers of African American elementary school students. She is the Director of Clinical Services for Peace Over Violence and on the Strategic Planning Committee of the Trauma Informed Task Force of Greater LA. Devika Shankar, Program Coordinator, LA LGBT Center
Devika Shankar is a transnational feminist and passionate advocate dedicated to social justice and fighting all forms of oppression. She has worked in the field of Domestic Violence and Intimate Partner Violence (DV/IPV) for over 10 years, is certified in the state of California in both Domestic Violence Counseling for Survivors and in Batterers' Intervention, and has provided advocacy, counseling, and support services to adult and youth survivors of IPV and many other forms of trauma and violence. Devika is currently the Program Coordinator of the Family Violence Intervention Services/STOP Violence Program at the Los Angeles LGBT Center. Addison Rose Vincent, Pride United Lead Advocate, Strength United
Addison Rose Vincent (they/them) is a transfeminine genderqueer activist born in Canada and raised in Michigan. Addison majored in Peace & Conflict Studies and minored in Women's Studies and Business Administration at Chapman University, graduating in May 2015. They currently serve as a Lead Advocate for Pride United, a program at Strength United dedicated to LGBTQIA+ survivors of violence in LA County, specifically San Fernando Valley and Santa Clarita Valley. Addison also serves on the Transgender Advisory Council of Los Angeles, as the co-founder of TransHaven LA, and served as the social media manager for the Intersex & Genderqueer Recognition Project which was successful in getting SB 179 passed to allow non-binary options on CA IDs.
