INTIMATE APPAREL Written by Lynn Nottage Guest directed by Kathryn Bentley Thursday–Saturday, January 29–31 • 7:30 p.m. Sunday, February 1 • 3 p.m. Green Center for the Performing Arts, Moore TheatreIt's 1905 and Esther, a Black seamstress, is in great demand in New York City for the intimate apparel she creates for clients ranging from wealthy White patrons to prostitutes. Though she fills others’ lives with beauty, she longs for love and a future of her own. Through a mutual acquaintance, she begins a correspondence with George, a lonesome Caribbean man working on the Panama Canal, and soon he persuades her to marry him sight unseen. Yet Esther’s heart is drawn to the Hasidic shopkeeper from whom she buys her cloth. When George finally arrives in New York, Esther must confront the truth of her choices and a future she could not have imagined.Originally produced in New York by Roundabout Theatre Company, Todd Haimes, Artistic Director, Intimate Apparel is presented by special arrangement with Broadway Licensing, LLC, servicing the Dramatists Play Service collection.Tickets also are available at the Green Center box office one hour prior to performances.
